Former West Australian premier-turned lobbyist Brian Burke has been found not guilty of illegally obtaining confidential government information.

Mr Burke was accused of receiving confidential letters relating to a land development near Perth from the former deputy director of the Industry and Resources Department, Gary Stokes, in 2006.The men stood trial in the Perth Magistrates Court together.While Mr Burke was acquitted, Mr Stokes was found guilty of disclosing the information.Mr Stokes faces a fine of up to $12,000 when he is sentenced next week.The charges arose out of a Corruption and Crime Commission inquiry six years ago into the influence of lobbyists on public servants.
